  • The Stages of Change Model and its implications for the journey of recovery
  • Effective ways to provide support that encourages recovery
  • Develop strong communication skills
  • Recognizing the impact of the stigma of addiction and mental health on families
  • Understanding the societal and health effects of addiction
  • Intervening on unhelpful behaviours
  • Learn to advocate for themselves and others

Learning from People Who’ve Been There

What makes SRWC’s Family Support Program special is that it includes the thoughts and experiences of people who have gone through recovery themselves. They have a deep understanding of the difficulties and successes that come with overcoming addiction and other Substance Use Disorders.

Ongoing Support

After completing the Family Education program, you can continue your journey with our Support Group. Our family support programs are a healing community of individuals from diverse backgrounds with one common shared experience—the concern for a loved one living with addiction. This group provides empathy and understanding to help you deal with stress, anxiety, and the loss of control that often comes with having a family member with an addiction or other  Substance Use Disorders.

Once you finish the Family Education program, you can keep going with our Support Group. Our family support program is a community of people from different backgrounds who all share the same concern – they care about a loved one dealing with addiction. This group is there to support you, help you stay motivated and active. They help each other deal with difficult problems and emotions that come up.
